Fourth of July Shenanigans

Rich and I enjoyed a long weekend over the holiday and partook in a little local flavor at the
Sundown Salute in Junction City.

Friday we headed over for the Extreme Canine Stunt Dog Show. We weren't sure what to expect, but did think it would be a tad more "extreme" then it turned out. It was entertaining none the less.

Bonus, all of the canines were rescue dogs

Then on Saturday we set up our lawn chairs in the sporadic rain and settled in for an Eagle's cover band and the main act, Eddy Monie. This is the view from our seats. If we had gotten any closer, my ears would still be ringing.

Eddy Money was... well, as Richard put it... marginal. But he was very amusing when he wasn't singing. Although, I could barely understand the gibberish coming out of his mouth. He spoke a lot about his "ladies of the 80's" and something about washing his hair on Tuesday. I. don't. know. We had a great time though!

And of course we treated ourselves to the fair food! Yummy corn on the cob, and no I wasn't singing into the corn, it just looks that way.

Then came the really good stuff. I had chocolate dipped cheesecake on a stick, which was awesome! Rich had funnel cake, but I don't know how he enjoyed it without it being smothered in chocolate sauce?!?! To each his own I suppose.

After the concert, Junction City put on fireworks for us. I didn't have my good camera with me, so I didn't get any of the fireworks that night.

As we were on are way out, we caught a Freestyle Motocross Show. It was dark so the pictures didn't turn out, but I caught a little video of it.

Sunday we spent most of the day lounging and watching movies because it was pouring buckets! We watched Youth In Revolt, which is an awesome movie. Loved it!

Finally the skies cleared up for our date with the Manhattan Fireworks at Cico Park

We were able to get really close to them and had to tilt our heads back to see the display. It was pretty amazing.

Kudos to Manhattan and Junction City on such a nice job with all of the festivities!

  1. Love the pictures of the fireworks, that was the closet I got this year. I remember the first time we took you to the fireworks here in Akron, you didn't like the noise and kept asking for it to stop. The chocolate covered cheese cake looks aussome, I have never seen that before.
    Love youMom
