Flat Jordan Returns Home

And just like that, he was gone! Flat Jordan came to visit me in early March and had to be back in Ohio by Friday, so I shipped him off this afternoon. We didn't visit as many places as I would have liked to, but we did have a few fun adventures. I made a small scrap/photo album for Flat Jordan and my nephew to remember the visit. Here is a peak at the contents:

Flat Jordan has had a wonderful stay here in Manhattan, Kansas over the last month and a half! He found plenty to do in the Little Apple and surrounding areas.

As soon as Flat Jordan found out he was coming to the land of OZ, (a.k.a. Kansas) he knew that he needed to make a stop at the OZ Museum in Wamego. It was there that he met all of the characters from the movie, including Dorothy, Toto, and Glinda the Good Witch. He also met the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Wicked Witch of the West. Thankfully he made it through without being captured by the flying monkeys!

While Flat Jordan was in Wamego, he made a stop at the Old Dutch Mill during the Tulip Festival. The mill was used to grind locally grown grain into flour and is over a century old!

Flat Jordan also visited Fort Riley (a United States Army installation) where Jordan’s Uncle Richard works. They have a neat Union Pacific Locomotive on post that you can walk through and check out. Locomotive 6072 was used for 49 years on mid-western lines before being donated to Fort Riley. Flat Jordan is excited to learn more about trains after his visit there!

During Flat Jordan’s stay, he checked out what Manhattan had to offer. He went to the mall and rode the carousel, got a pedicure, enjoyed bread sticks at Olive Garden, had ice cream at Baskin Robbins, and played air hockey at Time Out Corner. Flat Jordan also got to watch the sunset at Washington Marlatt Memorial Park, also called “Top of the World.” This park offers 360 degree views of Manhattan, Kansas. It was breathtaking!

Flat Jordan’s favorite part of the visit was the road trip to see the World’s Largest Ball of Twine in Cawker City, KS.

During our 2 hour drive to Cawker City we stopped at several locations along the way. First we saw the Little Red School House in Mitchell County and then we stopped in Beloit to check out a restoration project for the Mitchell County Historical Society. They are transforming several old rundown buildings into a museum!

When we finally got to the World’s Largest Ball of Twine, Flat Jordan had to get hands on. He wrapped himself in twine to become part of the ball! But don’t worry, we didn’t leave him there.

Thank you so much for sending Flat Jordan to visit me! We had a great time and I enjoyed showing him around. Next time he comes out to visit we will have to go to Sunset Zoo, Kansas State University, Konza Prairie and the new City Park pool. Have a great summer!
